A lot has been said this year about the
challenging economy facing our nation.
Pundits and talking heads have shared
varying opinions about its start and its
end. Regardless of the opinions and facts
available to us on a daily basis, there is one
simple truth business growth is booming
in Bel Air, MD.
Since January 2010, Downtown Bel Air
and the surrounding area have seen a
tremendous investment of new businesses
opening their doors. The bulk of this
investment has been in Downtown Bel
Air and is comprised of mostly small retail
businesses, but larger national chains have
also brought their investments here. In
Downtown Bel Air alone the following
businesses have opened their doors and
are reporting strong returns on their
investments:
K&B Bridals and Event
Planning, MD School of Ballet/Pilates
on Main, Chesapeake Trisport, Simply
Charmed Boutique, Dark Horse Saloon,
The Bead Box, Boutique 7, and Window
World of Harford County. In addition to
the business investments from our local
community members, Bel Air has also
welcomed two national chains:
Famous
Dave's and hhgregg. Add to that the
various service-oriented businesses that
have also decided to "hang their shingle"
in Bel Air:
Stroller Strides and Tutor Doctor.
And it's not over yet!
The Flavor
Cupcakery, which has been providing their
cupcakes to local coffee shops for the past
several months, will be opening their shop
on Tollgate Road in just a few weeks. Bel
Air, MD is booming!
This growth can be attributed to a variety
of reasons. Certainly
BRAC (Base Realignment
And Closure)
has had an influence, but that
alone couldn't support the growth. The best
reason is simply a return to basics: Location,
Location, Location. Bel Air has always been
Harford County's retail center and county
seat. It is the hub of activity that includes
county and state offices, Harford Mall, and
the greatest concentration of national
brands in Harford County. The question
isn't, "Why is Bel Air experiencing such
amazing growth?" The question is, "Why
wouldn't Bel Air experience such amazing
growth?" Everything you could need or
possibly want is right here!
The growth in Bel Air, MD, is also the most
important contributing factor in the growth
of the
Bel Air Downtown Alliance, a
501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is
one of 23 Main Street Programs in the
State of Maryland. Since January of 2010,
the
Alliance has experienced a nearly 50%
growth rate with the addition of more than
50 new members.
The Alliance is dedicated
to creating a vibrant business community
and visitor friendly destination in
Downtown Bel Air, MD. We work closely
with Harford County's and the Town of Bel
Air's Offices of Economic Development to
help ignite business growth. As each new
business opens its doors and joins the
Alliance, the flames of investment are
fanned and the economic engine of Bel
Air, MD continues to surge forward.
