Sometimes
HERVS can provide advice and recommend
treatment over the phone. In many instances, though,
staff will advise you to bring your pet to the hospital.
Once there, our doctor will examine your pet, with
x-rays, blood tests and other diagnostic tools. This may
include placing intravenous catheters, administering
IV fluids, administering medications, oxygen therapy
and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. We offer continuous
ECGs, oxygen support, fluid therapy, blood pressure
and blood gases monitoring and other advanced
procedures. We stabilize the animal, perform necessary
surgery or refer your pet to a veterinary cardiologist,
neurologist, orthopedist or oncologist. In some cases,
your pet will stay in the hospital suite for a period.
Our facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, surgical
suite, in-house radiology, hospitalization area and indoor
kennels. We also stock fresh frozen plasma, packed
frozen red blood cells and a supply of whole blood.
Typically, the animals we treat are dogs, cats, birds
and "pocket pets" such as hamsters, ferrets and bunnies.
Although we discourage people from handling wildlife,
we do care for orphaned and injured wildlife until
they can be transferred to wildlife rehabilitation facilities.
We don't give vaccines and we don't sell flea or tick
products. What we do at
Harford Emergency and
Referral Veterinary Services is provide optimal
emergency veterinary care for your pet 24 hours a
day, 365 days a year.
