Keep it Local!
Dolce
Dolce's Desk
Each month, my desk is layered
with a number of requests from
local non-profit organizations
to participate in or to sponsor
fund-raising events: parties and
dinners and fairs and events,
5K runs and walks, cut-a-thons, bingo, silent
auctions and all-you-can-eat breakfasts. These
events raise funds for research for cancer and
other diseases, for housing assistance, to provide
a much needed lift for families in crisis, to give
"extras" for service men or veterans, and to
support the community groups that work to
enhance the quality of life for all of us.
In the past year,
Harford's Heart has participated
in fund-raising events for the
Library, the Center
for the Arts, the Bel Air Rotary, the Bel Air
Downtown Alliance, the Rockfield Foundation,
the Chesapeake Cancer Alliance, and the
Harford Fall Fest. All these organizations are
working to Keep It Local. Volunteers are rolling
up their sleeves and putting their hands in their
pockets to coordinate events that are fun for the
community, that bring people together, and that
focus attention on services and activities that
contribute to the character of Harford County
that makes us proud to call it home.
Sponsors of these activities the businesses
and individuals who contribute hard cash and
in-kind materials or services also believe in
the importance of Keeping it Local. Local
restaurants support school and sports groups
by donating proceeds from special meals.
Local retail stores provide silent auction items.
Local businesses donate services for signage,
promotion, and decoration.
Most of all, the success of all these fund-raising
efforts depends on attendance at the events
by YOU. Come out to enjoy the music at the
Harford County Rock & Blues Festival at
Rockfield on June 5th, Race to Feed the
Hungry
on June 19th or play Bingo at the
Darlington-Dublin VFW on a Friday evening,
watch the Lawnmower Races at
Steppingstone
Museum in July and Keep It Local by supporting
local events throughout the year!
Our online Calendar of Events lists details of
these and many more events. Visit our web site at
