Continuing our profiles of the
unique businesses in the historic
Delta Borough . . .
Delta Pizza, 533 Main Street, celebrated
its 25th anniversary last December. The
Ferranti family opened the doors in
December, 1983, only months after
Giuseppe and Maria arrived in America
with their children Sal and Katie.
Giuseppe (Joe) used to joke that they had
taken a wrong turn trying to drive from
Baltimore Little Italy to New Jersey
(where they were staying with relatives) and
had stopped to ask directions at a sub shop on
Main Street, Delta. The story continues that
Joe was astonished that such a small town as
Delta could support a restaurant with such a
full menu and was inspired to open his own
restaurant in
the borough.
A quarter of a
century later, the
family-owned
business is
thriving, having
expanded the
original pizza shop
in 1995 to include
a fine dining
room. At the
same time, the Ferranti's obtained a liquor
license, now serving wine and mixed drinks
to complement their meals. Along with the
expanded space, the original menu has also
grown to more than 160 items, including 30
