Real Life: Real Fit
Harford County's Big Losers
Twelve Harford County residents recently lost a
total of 195 pounds in the 12 week Real Health:
Real Life program at
Beyond Fit.
Under the guidance
of Angela Romano, participants learned about
healthy choices in nutrition, exercise and strength
training, making permanent positive changes for
improvements in overall health and well being.
To do that, the class visited local food stores to
learn about reading labels. They met individually
with Angela (a Certified Nutritionist) and developed
weekly shopping lists. Trainers met with each
member to develop exercise programs to achieve
personal goals. Along with the weight loss, some
of the participants experience dramatic decreases
in cholesterol levels in one case, dropping over
100 points!
It wasn't all easy. Several members of the class told
us that the first 3 or 4 weeks were frustrating, but
as they established new habits and began to notice
the first few pounds falling away, the program
became easier and easier. They supported each
other by meeting outside of class for walks or runs,
shopping together to reinforce the lessons from the
class, and calling one another for encouragement.
Everyone increased their level of exercise one
member recently completed a 5K charity run,
another member of the group completed the 33
mile Tour de Cure diabetes bike ride in Cooksville.
All pointed to Angela's enthusiasm and
non-judgmental encouragement as essential in
keeping them on track. Most important, they all
are determined to continue the new habits they've
established. At their recent "graduation", members
of the program were unanimous in their praise for
the course, and all deemed it "well worth the
money." Angela commended everyone on their
accomplishments: "The important thing was that
everyone replaced talking about their goals with
actions to achieve those goals."
Beyond Fit
will be holding another course,
beginning September 9. Registration is now open!
