Something old, something new, something wonderful, something BETTER
by michael i. blum
The Town of Bel Air
is transforming its traditional
Holiday Celebration to a unified community
entertainment and fun Holiday Kick-Off Event,
from 2:45 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, December 6,
2009. The crown jewel of this event will be a
"Holiday Procession Down Main Street," but there's
lots more: live music, bonfire, carols with the crowd,
prizes and gifts, a special tree lighting and the entry
of Mr. & Mrs. Claus to the
Town of Bel Air!
Planning was still underway as this issue of
Harford's
Heart
went to print, but one of the significant
differences between the past and this year is that the
"2009 Holiday Procession Down Main Street"
will have a more traditional holiday entertainment
performance style. That means the best possible
entertainers, costumed characters, and carefully
chosen bands and performers on floats, wheels,
hooves and stilts to wow the crowds lining Main
Street and Lee Street. You'll have to see and hear
this to believe it!
The entire afternoon promises fun and great holiday
cheer for everyone who comes to see the celebration.
Here's the complete schedule:
~ Courtland Street Concert: 2:45 pm - 3:30 pm
~ Holiday Procession Down Main Street: 3:30 pm
~ Bonfire Lighting in Shamrock Park: 3:55 pm
~ Holiday Caroling, Refreshments, Tree Lighting
in Shamrock Park: 4:00 pm
~ Entry of Mr. and Mrs. S. Claus: approx.
4:15 pm
The Holiday Procession Down Main Street starts at
the exit from the large municipal parking lot next to
the
Greene Turtle,
goes north up Main Street, turns
right on Lee St. and then proceeds INTO
Shamrock Park,
where a huge bonfire will be lighted
to welcome all the onlookers and performers from the procession.
Hot chocolate, marshmallows, Christmas Carols, Holiday Music, prizes, gifts, a special TREE
LIGHTING and much more will then follow!
The Master of Ceremonies at Shamrock is Bel Air's own Captain Jim McMahan;
Harford
County Public Schools
spokesperson Teri Kranefeld will be the announcer for the Procession.
Of course the entire CELEBRATION is free for everyone who has the joys and love of the
holiday season in his or her heart (Grinches have to pay!).
For more information, call 410-838-0584.
Note: the Celebration will be CANCELLED in the event of serious weather complications,
including excessive cold. It is December, you know! In the event that occurs, cancellation
will be announced on
WXCY-FM 103.7
and on
WBAL-AM 1090,
on Sunday, December 6 at
1:00 pm, and a recording saying so will be at 410-838-0584.
